Why I'm Breaking Up With My Favourite Tool(s)

The Email

A couple of weeks ago, I found myself staring at an email notification: "Your subscription is expiring." This wasn’t just any subscription, but one for a tool I had relied on heavily. At that moment, I faced a big question — do I renew or do I move on?

Amidst all the high-profile news about the tool itself, it felt like a sign from the universe telling me it was time to change.

Don’t get me wrong, this tool is still probably the best out there in its category. I had the luxury of being an early adopter, paying way less than what new subscribers are being charged now.

So, Why Leave?

Hello World! My ol' pal!

Because I want to start building again, which also means: coding.

Sure, these tools are convenient and powerful, and it might seem foolish to reinvent the wheel. But here’s my unpopular opinion: they can be expensive, often offering just one small feature at a high price. Imagine paying 3-5 of these tools, up to 10 even. I mean, sure if you're rich. I'm just a smol-time Indie maker.

I want to create things that are uniquely mine, that suit my tastes and align with my values. There's a deep satisfaction in building something from scratch, a sense of attachment that no pre-made tool can offer.

I think everyone should try it too — build your own favourite tools. It’s a good way to develop a valuable skill and create something truly personal.

The Decision

So yes, I’m ditching all of them. Not just one, but all the tools I’ve been relying on. Except for a few of course. #iykyk😉

I’m starting from scratch, going back to my roots, code like my life depends on it.😄

This journey is about more than just building products; it’s about personal growth and embracing the challenge. It’s a way to stay motivated and push myself to new heights.
